Umm, the dog ate my homework?

As the title suggests, I am looking for an excuse. I am ashamed.  I can't believe this much time has passed since our last blog.  To speak honestly, though, I have started working and try to spend as little time as possible in front of the computer...AND, having two kids to keep up with just keeps you busy, no matter if they are awake or asleep there is always someone to play with or chase, or something to do.  This is definitely not the meat and potatoes, but just the bare bones. So, here it goes: the high lights.

March:

Charlie turned 5 months old.  He found his feet.  He continued to be loved on by brother and all those around him.  He continued to sleep in the bed with mommy, and this worked out for a while.

It snowed.  It stuck around long enough for us to build a little snow man.

I turned 32 and got a bike.  I haven't had a bike since I was a little girl.  I also started working a little part time, like 4 hours a week.  Then, at the end of the month the privately owned new therapy business I started working for got bought out by Carolina Pediatric Therapy, so I started working for them.
Maybe you can forget how to ride a bike?

We continued to hang out at the house, and ventured out a little, too.  This month, we ran our first 5 mile race for the Race of the Taps Series in Asheville.  The race took place at Bold Rock in Mills River.

Henry continued to be super silly.  He was sick and missed Dr. Seuss day at school, so he dressed up like the Grinch at home.  He also got the world's worst wedgie.

We went to see the band Shovel's and Rope with Mark and Sarah.

April:
Charlie moved to his crib in his room this month!
Look at these handsome boys!

We went on vacation to Destin, Florida with Sam's parents.  The water and beaches were beautiful.  Henry LOVED the beach and water this year.    I have to say the drive was worth it...maybe.  Twelve hours all total with stops is a long day in the car with the kids.  I didn't want to leave, or maybe it is that I just didn't want to get back in the car and drive home.

We had to drive back in time for Easter, though.  Henry, Charlie, and I were baptized on Easter Sunday, and we all joined First United Methodist Church of Waynesville where we had been attending since January.
And don't forget about a visit from the Easter Bunny!

May:

Henry turned 3! He had not one, but two birthday celebrations.  We had a family celebration at El Chapala and then a brithday with friends at the Rec Center.  He had a blast swimming with all of his friends!

Charlie started flirting with the idea of sitting up for a FEW seconds.  AND he started eating food.  This kid has been a food fan since day 1 and has not met a food he didn't like.  Avocado was his first food as it was Henry's.

June:
Happy Father's Day to this guy!  Double the fun!

Charlie turned 8 months.  Still not crawling, but he began to get better at sitting up!  He slept two 12 hour nights in a row this month, but after that, we went on vacation and still haven't experienced that again 5 months later.

This kid continues to develop a personality and be super silly!

We went to Fripp Island for the third year in a row with my family.  Henry had a lot a cousin time.  He was finally old enough to hang in there and play with everyone!

Here we are touching a snake at the Nature Center on the island.

Here is my 32 year old cartwheel!

Henry saw his first movie in the theater, Cars 3.  He was definitely a fan.  We have been playing Crazy 8 ever since.

July:

Happy 4th of July!  We celebrated at home with sparklers again.  As you can see, the kids are in their pajamas, and it is still daylight outside.  Yeah, they were not feeling staying up late to see fireworks (or was it us who wasn't feelin' it?).

Lots of brother love in this house!

Fun summers projects included making terrariums.  One open, one closed, and two mini open ones for the boys' rooms.  Henry was a good helper!  The open ones are still alive, but the closed one, I will have to try that again.

We made cow masks and got a free sandwich at Chic-fil-a.  Henry really enjoys seeing animals in costumes right now!

Charlie is just a happy little guy.  He began sitting up much better this month.  Still no crawling!
Henry went to Wacky Wednesdays at Church.  This year was a super hero theme and each week they completed a part of the costume.  He can really get into character.
We enjoyed going to the lake and letting Henry ride his bike along the rose walk and smell EVERY SINGLE ROSE.  We eventually end up at the park, play for a few minutes and then head back the other way.  As you can see, Charlie is starting to enjoy the swing!
We ate at Ten Acre Garden.  They make delicious pizzas!

We made a trip to Santa's Land with Sam's parents.  It hasn't changed...in 30 years.  What a gem!  It was just the right size/speed for Henry.  It was a good introduction to rides.  Henry even rode the Ferris Wheel and wasn't scared!  Charlie enjoyed looking at the animals and then eventually passed out!

August:

This month was all about Charlie.  He became independent at sitting up.  Started assuming the crawling position.  He also started rolling.  I would leave him in one place in a room for a second and then come back and find him in another!  He also started clapping and pulling all his toys out. We also introduced the walker since he was showing some frustration with not being able to be mobile and keep up with Henry.  Henry enjoyed the free rides.

In Henry news, he started his second year of preschool! He is excited to start this year and does not cry when dropped off!  Yay! He is still only going 2 days a week for a half day.  He goes on the days that I work.

We took a little weekend trip to our friends, Matt and Tanya's, lake house.  We really just enjoyed visiting and being on the lake and getting in the water a little bit.  It was a slow speed, but just the right speed to wind down the summer.  The day after we got back, Sam had to start school back. The other big event of August was the solar eclipse!  To celebrate, Henry and I made a craft, a cereal box pinhole viewer, a mask for him, and I got him up early from his nap and we made popcorn and ate cookies to watch the total eclipse, well the 98% totality we could view from our house.  It was neat how dusky, cool, and quiet it got for a little while.

So, that was one sad excuse for a blog to get you caught up with winter, spring, and summer!  I will try to stay on top of things more.  My plan is a fall blog after Thanksgiving!
